Welcome to the Illawarra Mining and Metallurgy Heritage Trail - a knowledge resource which seeks to recognise, honour and make more widely known the rich industrial history of the Illawarra region of New South Wales. Because of its location and natural resources. the Illawarra has had a long association with mining and metallurgy, which continues to this day. Development of this site has been sponsored by the Illawarra branch of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Where would you like to start?

Information on this site may be viewed three ways

- follow a Trail and view sites as they appear on a tour, accessing the full material on each location along the way

- follow a similar Trail, but view only condensed information designed for ready use on your mobile phone (as in a GeoTreat trail)

- look through a comprehensive timeline of significant events in mining and metallurgy in the region, and access further information on specific sites as you wish along the way.

Along the way, you will be offered links to other related sites providing more information and perspectives on the locations and events described here. We can't take responsibility for these external sites - but would ask that you report to this site's administrator any links which aren't working correctly.
